About SolarWoodle®

SolarWoodle® designs and manufactures high-quality solar-powered outdoor lighting. We do this in line with our vision: the best of nature, technology, and people. Since 2015, we have been combining innovative solar panel technology, sustainable materials, and thoughtful design.

Our lighting systems are powered entirely by solar energy, which means they operate without electrical cables or a connection to the power grid. We develop our solar panel modules, electronics, and software entirely in-house. This allows us to maintain control over the quality, performance, and lifespan of our products.

Thanks to their thoughtful design, the systems are suitable for a wide range of outdoor environments, from parks and walking trails to parking lots, campgrounds, real estate properties, municipal areas, nature reserves, and commercial projects.

Woodles® products are designed and manufactured entirely in the Netherlands. This allows us to keep product development and manufacturing closely aligned, ensure quality, and continuously improve our technology.

We use carefully selected, sustainable materials that can withstand all weather conditions.

We offer various types of solar lighting for outdoor spaces:

  • Path Lighting for Walking and Biking Trails
  • Park Lighting for Parks and Public Spaces
  • Parking Lot Lighting for Parking Lots
  • Lanterns for Atmospheric Outdoor Lighting
  • Wall lighting for facades and exterior walls
  • Wayfinding lighting for clear route guidance
  • Natural Lighting for Nature Reserves and Natura 2000 Sites
  • Custom circuits: triggered by motion, based on a calendar, or at specific times
  • Custom Solutions for Specific Projects

Features and Performance

During the day, the fixtures convert sunlight into energy and store it in a battery. After sunset, the system uses the stored energy to automatically power the LED lights.

Smart energy management adjusts energy consumption to suit conditions at any time of year. This allows the fixtures to operate independently year-round, without cables or a connection to the power grid.

Yes, they are designed to operate year-round, even when there is less sunlight. On cloudy days or when a Woodle is placed under vegetation, the solar panels can still generate energy. Although the charging efficiency is lower in cloudy weather, they continue to collect energy and store it in the battery.

The solar panels continue to charge the battery even in winter. Depending on the model and weather conditions, the lights can provide illumination for approximately 10 to 17 hours—or longer—after a full charge.

Smart energy management ensures that available energy is used as efficiently as possible.

No, they operate completely independently of the power grid. No underground cables, electricity meters, or grid connections are required.

No connection to the power grid is required for installation either. The integrated solar panel charges the battery during the day, after which the lights turn on automatically at sunset and turn off again at sunrise.

The light output varies by model and application. For example, there are solutions for subtle path lighting where the light shines approximately 1 meter around the model. With our ambient lighting, this is approximately 5 meters all around, and with brighter lighting, it ranges from 14 to 25 meters around the Woodle—for parking lots, for example.

Each light fixture is designed to achieve an optimal balance between light output, energy consumption, and visual comfort, while minimizing light pollution. In this way, they ensure safety in every location without disturbing the flora and fauna.

Burning time varies by model and weather conditions. Under normal conditions, many models can provide light for 14 hours or longer on a full charge.

Our proprietary smart energy management system helps make efficient use of available energy and extend the battery's lifespan.

Yes, they are designed for long-term outdoor use. With an IP65 rating, the fixtures are completely dustproof and protected against water jets from all directions. This makes our Woodles suitable for a wide range of outdoor applications and normal weather conditions, such as rain and wind, as well as extreme weather conditions. For flood-prone areas, we offer 100% waterproof fixtures.

Yes, the wood is specially treated to improve its resistance to moisture, mold, and rot. This extends the wood's lifespan while preserving its natural appearance.

To ensure long-term preservation, we recommend regularly inspecting and cleaning the wood. Any damage or areas where the wood has become untreated should be repaired promptly.

The batteries are designed to last for years and come with a 10-year warranty. Their lifespan depends on the model, usage, and conditions.

Our practical experience confirms the long service life and reliability of this battery technology. For example, the Woodles® units installed along the coast in 2015 are still operational. This means these systems have now been in operation for more than 10 years, even under demanding coastal conditions.

Installation and Use

No, the systems are designed for quick and easy CO2-neutral installation. Since no underground cabling or grid connection is required, minimal excavation is needed, and installation can be carried out efficiently.

Woodles can be quickly installed in any type of terrain; we also supply underground ground screws or above-ground mounting brackets with the Woodle. This makes installing Woodles a breeze, even on rooftop gardens, in forested areas, and on everything from clay soils to rocky terrain.

Woodles® are suitable for a wide variety of outdoor locations, such as:

  • Municipalities and Public Spaces
  • Parks and hiking trails
  • Nature and Recreation Areas
  • Parking Lots and Industrial Parks
  • Campgrounds and residential areas
  • Hospitality and Commercial Projects

Thanks to their wireless installation, they are also suitable for locations where emergency lighting or a traditional electrical connection would be difficult or costly to install.

Sustainability and Nature

We develop nature-friendly lighting, including for use in Natura 2000 areas. We only illuminate where and when necessary. For each location, we tailor the light intensity, direction, placement, and operating hours to the surrounding environment.

This helps us prevent unnecessary light pollution and minimize disruption to wildlife, biodiversity, and the landscape. Nature remains as dark as possible, while visitors and users can safely find their way.

With SolarWoodle fixtures, you should be able to see the starry sky above the Woodles. This ensures that the lighting causes as little disturbance as possible to people and animals, making them suitable for areas where light pollution is not permitted (dark sky areas).

We make sustainable choices in both technology and materials. We use solar energy, manufacture locally in the Netherlands, and use sustainable materials. In addition, we design our lighting to minimize unnecessary light pollution.

With certifications such as NL Greenlabel A, DarkSky, and PEFC, we demonstrate our commitment to sustainability, nature conservation, and responsible use of materials. In this way, we combine energy-efficient lighting with a long service life and the smallest possible environmental impact.

Advice and Purchasing

Yes, this solution can save costs in the long run and offers practical benefits. You won’t have any electricity costs or need underground cabling, which will also keep installation costs lower. Thanks to its sustainable design and long service life, it requires very little maintenance.

In addition, you install the lighting independently of the power grid. This makes the systems flexible to use, even in locations without a grid connection. This way, you invest in reliable lighting that will continue to perform for years, with minimal costs and maintenance.
